- .MAIN Main Help
-
- This screen shows the general categories covering the
- options that may be stored in the default option file.
- These options become the default options used whenever
- SCSAVER is run with the /F switch, or when it is initially
- loaded.
-
- To select an option category, either type the number shown
- next to the category, move the cursor-bar to the category
- and press ENTER or double-click on the category name.
-
- After you have made all desired changes, press "S" (or click
- SAVE CHANGES) to save your changes to disk for future use.
- The file into which the options will be saved is displayed
- on the title line of the menu.
-
- You will need to run SCSAVER.COM with the /F switch for
- these options to take effect. (If ScSaver is already
- resident when you save the options, you will be asked if you
- want to reload the changes just saved.)
-
- To exit without saving any changes, press "X" (or press
- ESCAPE or click EXIT WITHOUT SAVING).

- :Count-down Intervals and Hot-keys
- .IntervalMenu Overview
-
- This menu allows you to select the blanking interval,
- locking interval, the blanking hot-key and master lock
- hot-key. The current value of each option is displayed
- next to each item. More detailed information is available
- by selecting the option and choosing HELP.
-
- To select an option category, either type the number shown
- next to the category, move the cursor-bar to the category
- and press ENTER or double-click on the category name.
-
- To return to the previous menu, click the RETURN box or
- press the ESCAPE key.
-
- .BLANK Blank Interval
-
- The blanking interval defines how many minutes of inactivity
- should elapse before the screen is blanked. The value
- entered should be a number from 1 to 59.
-
- Enter a new value and press <ENTER> (or click OK) to define
- a new value. Use the (+) or (-) keys to increment or
- decrement the value. To leave this screen without changing
- the existing value, press <ESCAPE> (or click CANCEL).
-
- .LOCK Lock Interval
-
- The lock interval defines how many seconds of inactivity
- should elapse before the keyboard lock is engaged. The
- value entered should be a number from 1 to 3600.
-
- Enter a new value and press <ENTER> (or click OK) to define
- a new value. Use the (+) or (-) keys to increment or
- decrement the value. To leave this screen without changing
- the existing value, press <ESCAPE> (or click CANCEL).
-
- .HotKey Hot Key for Screen Blanking
-
- This hot-key may be used to trigger on-demand screen
- blanking. When this key is defined as a Screen Saver
- hot-key, it will be unavailable to any other running
- programs. Each time this key is pressed Screen Saver will
- blank the screen.
-
- Press a new key combination that will be used as the
- blanking hot-key. This key must be different than the key
- selected as the Master Lock Hot Key. Various other keys are
- not allowed to be used as a hot key. The list below shows
- which keys are eligible to be used as hot keys.
-
- HOT-KEYS THAT MAY BE USED
-
- F1 through F10
- ShiftF1 through ShiftF10
- CtlF1 through CtlF10
- AltF1 through AltF10
- CtlLeftArrow
- CtlRightArrow
- CtlEnd

- through your hardware BIOS, you may also use the following
- keys (make sure that the /K+ option is set or defaulted):
-
- F11 and F12
- ShiftF11 and ShiftF12
- CtlF11 and CtlF12
- AltF11 and AltF12
-
- Just because you may have the keys on your keyboard doesn't
- necessarily mean that the BIOS routines support them. This
- is particularly true of replacement keyboards that have been
- purchased separately. Generally, if the keyboard is the one
- that came with the machine (and has F11 and F12), you
- probably have the BIOS support necessary to define these
- keys as "Hot Keys".
-
- .MasterLock Master Lock Hot Key
-
- This hot-key may be used to unconditionally engage the
- security lock. When this key is defined as a Screen Saver
- hot-key, it will be unavailable to any other running
- programs. Each time this key is pressed Screen Saver will
- lock the keyboard EVEN IF SCREEN SAVER WAS LOADED WITHOUT
- THE LOCK OPTION.
-
- Press a new key combination that will be used as the Master
- Lock hot-key. This key must be different than the key
- selected as the Screen Blanking Hot Key. Various other keys
- are not allowed to be used as a hot key. The list below
- shows which keys are eligible to be used as hot keys.

- :Password and Related Options
- .PasswordMenu Overview
-
- This menu allows you to select the password, whether the
- password is required to restore the screen after the lock
- engages, whether upper/lower case of the password is
- respected or ignored, the number of invalid passwords
- allowed when changing a password with SCSAVPSW and the
- number of invalid passwords allowed when the lock engages.
- The current value of each option is displayed next to each
- item. More detailed information is available by selecting
- the option and choosing HELP.
-
- To select an option category, either type the number shown
- next to the category, move the cursor-bar to the category
- and press ENTER or double-click on the category name.
-
- To return to the previous menu, click the RETURN box or
- press the ESCAPE key.
-
- .Password Select Password
-
- The password is used to unlock the keyboard when you have
- specified the LOCK or LOCKONLY option on the SCSAVER command
- line.
-
- When you have typed the new password (which is invisible as
- you type it), press return (or ENTER). The setup program
- will ask you to retype the password you have just entered.
- This is for verification purposes. If you mistype the
- password on either the first or second time, the password
- will not be changed.
-
- .PasswordForRestore Password Required for Restore
-
- When this option is checked and both the lock interval and
- the blank interval have expired, the screen will not be
- restored until after the correct password has been entered.
- To allow the screen to be restored ANY TIME a key is
- pressed, remove the check mark.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .IgnorePasswordCase Respect/Ignore Password Case
-
- When this option is checked, the case of alphabetic
- characters in the password will be respected (that is,
- upper and lower case letters are considered different).
- If not checked, then upper and lower case characters are
- considered equal (case ignored). This option is used when
- validating the password after the lock is engaged.
-
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .CHANGELIMIT Invalid Password Change Limit
-
- The program SCSAVPSW will allow the password to be changed
- without changing other default parameters. SCSAVPSW requires
- the user enter the existing password before allowing a change.
- This value may be set to limit the number of invalid attempts
- at typing the existing password. A value of zero (0) will allow
- an unlimited number of invalid attempts.
-
- Enter a new value and press <ENTER> (or click OK) to define
- a new value. Use the (+) or (-) keys to increment or
- decrement the value. To leave this screen without changing
- the existing value, press <ESCAPE> (or click CANCEL).
-
- .UNLOCKLIMIT Unlock Password Attempt Limit
-
- After the security lock engages, the correct password must
- be entered to unlock the system. This value may be set to
- limit the number of invalid unlock attempts at typing the
- existing password. Once this number of invalid attempts
- have been made, the system will be stay locked and no
- further password attempts will be allowed for one hour (or
- until a cold-boot or power-off/power-on is performed). A
- value of zero (0) will allow an unlimited number of unlock
- attempts.
-
- Enter a new value and press <ENTER> (or click OK) to define
- a new value. Use the (+) or (-) keys to increment or
- decrement the value. To leave this screen without changing
- the existing value, press <ESCAPE> (or click CANCEL).
-
- :Inactivity Monitoring
- .MonitoringMenu Overview
-
- This menu allows you to select whether video activity and
- mouse activity are to be monitored when determining if the
- system is idle and to set the mouse sensitivity value. The
- current value of each option is displayed next to each item.
- More detailed information is available by selecting the
- option and choosing HELP.
-
- To select an option category, either type the number shown
- next to the category, move the cursor-bar to the category
- and press ENTER or double-click on the category name.
-
- To return to the previous menu, click the RETURN box or
- press the ESCAPE key.
-
- .VideoInterrupts Video Activity Monitoring
-
- When this option is checked, Screen Saver will reset its
- count-down timer each time a video operation is performed.
-
- Some programs constantly update the screen, even in an idle
- state. Frequently, this is to update an on-screen clock or
- some other information. This constant video updating may
- prevent Screen Saver from blanking the screen (since it
- thinks the system is busy).
-
- To prevent Screen Saver from resetting its blanking timer
- when a video operation is performed, remove the check mark.
- This can be helpful if you find that the screen doesn't
- blank at the selected interval while some programs are
- running.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .MouseInterrupts Mouse Activity Monitoring
-
- If Screen Saver has been loaded after your mouse driver
- program, checking this option will cause Screen Saver to
- reset its count-down timers whenever the mouse has been
- moved or clicked.
-
- If, for some reason, you want Screen Saver to ignore mouse
- movements, remove the check mark.
-
- Please note that, if you have already loaded the resident
- program without mouse activity monitoring (/M-) you will
- have to reboot your computer to enable mouse movement
- monitoring.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .SENSITIVITY Mouse Sensitivity
-
- This option controls how sensitive Screen Saver will be to
- mouse movement. You may want to increase this value if you
- find that the screen is being refreshed when you bump your
- desk or each time an earthquake hits.
-
- If you find that too much mouse movement is required to
- restore the screen, you may decrease this value.
-
- Enter a new value and press <ENTER> (or click OK) to define
- a new value. Use the (+) or (-) keys to increment or
- decrement the value. To leave this screen without changing
- the existing value, press <ESCAPE> (or click CANCEL).
-
- :Miscellaneous Options
- .MiscOptMenu Overview
-
- This menu allows you to select miscellaneous options such as
- whether the key pressed to restore the screen should be
- passed to the application, whether the system has an
- enhanced BIOS or an unusual VGA, whether the "quiet" option
- should be the system default and if keyboard "hooks" are to
- be trapped.
-
- .PassRestoreKey Pass Restore Key to Application
-
- With this option checked, after the screen has been blanked,
- any key pressed will restore the screen (unless the password
- is required for restore). The key that was pressed will be
- passed on to any application running (or DOS). If you would
- rather that the key you press to restore the screen NOT be
- passed to the application, remove the check mark.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .EnhancedKBD Enhanced Keyboard
-
- In order to recognize keys such as F11 and F12, your system
- must have an enhanced BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).
- Although Screen Saver usually will detect whether an
- enhanced BIOS is present, there may be some situations where
- this proves incompatible.
-
- With this box checked, Screen Saver will inspect your system
- and determine whether an enhanced BIOS is present. If you
- experience keyboard incompatibilities, you may need to
- remove the check-mark and force the older BIOS calls to be
- used (this will prevent the use of the F11 and F12 keys as
- hot-keys).
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .UnusualVGA Unusual VGA
-
- If your VGA system acts strange (rolling or producing
- graphics patterns) when the blanker engages, your VGA may
- not be entirely compatible. Checking this box will cause
- Screen Saver to use EGA-mode blanking techniques that may
- work better on your system. You should not check this box
- option unless you experience problems or on the advise of
- technical support.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .DefaultQuiet Default Quiet Mode
-
- This box, if checked, will cause Screen Saver to load with
- quiet mode as the default. Quiet mode normally will
- supress the display of parameter settings being loaded.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- .TrapKbHooks Trap Keyboard Interrupt Hooks
-
- When this option is turned on, Screen Saver will trap
- attempts to hook the keyboard interrupt. If you experience
- situations where the screen blanks even though the keyboard
- was in use (or if a keypress does not restore the screen),
- this option may correct the condition. Game programs and
- terminal emulators are known to cause this condition.
-
- To change this option, press the space bar to toggle the
- check mark in the box (or click the check box with the
- mouse). Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new
- choice. Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the
- option setting to the value it had before you changed it.
-
- :
- .SaveAnyway Exiting without saving
-
- If you have made any changes while running the setup program
- and then choose to exit without saving, you will be warned
- that the changes have not been saved and asked if you wish
- to exit anyway.
-
- To exit without saving, type Y (or click YES). Any changes
- made during setup will be ignored. Otherwise, press ESCAPE
- (or click NO) to return to the setup menu.
-
- .ReloadChanges Reload Changes
-
- After saving your changes, if Screen Saver is currently
- running (and the version matches that of the setup
- program), you will be asked if you wish to reload your
- changes into the currently resident version. To reload the
- changes, type Y (or click YES). Otherwise, press ESCAPE (or
- click NO).
-
- Remember, any changes made by the setup program will not
- take effect until reloaded or until your system has been
- rebooted.
-
- .PasswordVerified Password Verified
-
- The password you have just entered was correctly verified.
-
- Press CR (ENTER) (or click OK) to accept your new choice.
- Press ESCape (or click CANCEL) to restore the password to
